2mm Flooring Underlay
The Generic Laminated Flooring Underlay provides a critical high-density polyethylene foam barrier between the subfloor and floating floor planks. This 2mm membrane compensates for minor subfloor deviations and provides essential cushioning for laminate and engineered timber installations. It functions as a thermal insulator and sound dampener, ensuring the finished floor remains stable and quiet under foot traffic.
Built for the Job
This foam roll is a standard requirement for site preparation before laying any click-system flooring. It effectively bridges small pits and ridges in concrete screeds or plywood subfloors that would otherwise cause the floor to bounce or creak. Contractors rely on this specific thickness to maintain the integrity of the locking joints, preventing premature wear caused by vertical deflection. The material is lightweight and easy to maneuver in tight residential hallways or large commercial floor plates.
-
Installation under laminate flooring in residential bedrooms and living areas.
-
Application as a separation layer for engineered wood floors on concrete slabs.
-
Use in multi-story buildings to reduce impact noise transmission between floors.

On-Site & Workshop Notes
-
Ensure the subfloor is completely dry, level, and swept free of all grit and debris before laying this foam.
-
Lay the membrane in the same direction as the flooring planks for the most stable results.
-
Butt the edges of the foam together tightly and secure the seams with waterproof adhesive tape to prevent shifting.
-
This barrier is not a substitute for a dedicated damp-proof membrane (DPM) on ground floors with high moisture levels.
-
Store rolls horizontally in a cool, dry area to prevent the edges from becoming crushed or deformed before use.
